Vintage Reliquary Medal / St. Anne de Beaupre Relic
This very old 3/4" bronze or brass reliquary medal has two parts. The front medal has Saint Ann de Beaupre holding the Blessed Virgin Mary in her arms. The loop at the top is marked "FRANCE". The back medal has a compartment lined with gold foil. It contains a small piece of paper that reads "Ste Anne" and a small piece of wood. The back shows the Basilica of St. Anne. These two parts were probably originally attached to each other, but over time they became two separate pieces.
The Basilica was totally destroyed by a fire on March 29, 1922. The wooden statue of St. Anne was miraculously left unscathed among the ruins and still held the great relic of St. Anne. This statue is the source of the wood sliver in this reliquary.
It is in preowned vintage condition with age wear and I have not cleaned or polished it. The relic is intact. Please see all the pictures for finer detail and ask any questions that might be helpful.
