Unusual Antique 1880s VINCENZ EISENSTEIN Vienna Austria 800 Silver Tobacco Case
A masterfully hand made late 19th Century tobacco case
. This beautiful piece is engraved all over with intricate patterns and floral designs. It features a very unusual lid with two hinged halves folding together. One of the halves has a spring mechanism so that the lid is under tension when closed. The lid is secured by a clasp sliding to the side. When opened, the spring activated half pops open to allow for easy access to the content.
Inside, the piece is beautifully gilded and marked all over.
The marks show an Austrian "Diana Head" hallmark indicating a production date between 1872 and 1922, a silver content of 80% and the location of Vienna. Also stamped "VE" being Vincenz Eisenstein's makers mark.
The piece measures approximately 4 1/4" long x 2 3/8" wide x 3/4" high and weighs 123.9 grams.
Very good condition with minor patina according to age, previously in private collection.
