Description

This is a 1st class Ex. Ossibus reliquary of St. Charbel Makhlouf, the Miraculous Monk of Lebanon. We purchase all our relics from priests, sisters, and also at estate sales held by their families.
St. Charbel is known as the Miracle Monk of Lebanon for the powers he seemingly had even before his death when many parishioners reported miraculous answers to their prayers after St. Charbel heard their confessions. Following his death, his fellow monks also came to believe Charbel was a very special soul and likely destined for sainthood.
St. Charbel is still beloved by Lebanese Christians and Catholics around the world or his intercession to prayers, especially those said at his tomb, and for his ability to unite Christians and Muslims. Comes from the estate of a priest. His family said he touched it to St. Charbel's tomb. Apparently, he visited many times. Does not come with any additional documentation for that, but we took them at their word.
He was beatified by Pope Paul VI on December 5, 1965 and canonized by Pope Paul VI on October 9, 1977. St. Charbel was a member of the Lebanese Maronite Order. He was born Youssef Antoun Makhlouf on May 8, 1828 in Bekaa-Kafra, a village in the mountains of Northern Lebanon. He entered the Monastery of St. Maron at the age of 23 and took the name Charbel after a 2nd century Christian martyr from Antioch.
He was ordained a priest in 1859. He wanted to spend his time in prayer and solitude and very much wanted to enter the hermitage at Sts. Peter and Paul, but his superiors felt he was far too young at 23. After his ordination, he spent his time celebrating Mass for the village people, hearing their confessions, and spending his free time in prayer.
He was known as an ascetic for his severely spartan life including sleeping on a straw mat on the floor rather than the bed the Monastery provided for him.
He died at the Monastery on Christmas Eve while a heavy snow fell. It is said that the next day, Christmas, the snowstorm stopped as his body was carried to his grave and the clouds gave way to the sun. After his burial, his faithful followers could be seen at his grave site every day. Because of the reports of miraculous cures after prayers to Charbel, a cause for his sainthood developed. His body was exhumed four times in the 20th century during which relics were taken. With each exhumation, his body was found to be intact with no signs of decay. This was taken as a sign of sainthood along with the many miracles attributed to his intercession after his death.
Charbel's final resting place is the chapel at the Monastery. His feast day in the Maronite calendar is the 3rd Sunday in July. It is July 24 in the Roman calendar.
