inches high with hanging hook (3,2cm)
which contains a relic of
St.Philomena,
young early Christian virgin and martyr whose remains were found in the catacombs of Rome in 1802. They became the focus of widespread devotions and several miracles were credited to Philomena. She was canonized in 1837.
Ornate oval silver plated brass case, decorated on the back case cover with a scene of the crucifixtion with the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene at the feet of Christ on the cross. T
he interior compartment is under glass on a green cloth background with golden palm decoration symbol of martyrdom, the relic is placed on a gold and red backing under the name label which reads
" S.Philomene.m " ( St.Philomena, martyr ).
The back case cover is very firmly closed but can be removed to view the red string seals and the official red wax Church seal with Bishop's hat and stem. All are in place and intact.
Ornate reliquary in excellent condition with minor signs of wear and age, some fades in the silvering which reveal the gold undertones of the brass castmetal.
