    Description

    Greetings:  I have a drill bit used in mining coal in Colfax, Iowa area.  This bit belonged to my Wife's Grandfather.  She was told by her Father that it was used in mines around the Colfax, Iowa area.  Am sure this goes back before 1900's.  Colfax area was popular for coal mining along with non existing towns now such as Oswalt and Severs and many other non-existence towns.
    The bit is approx. 40 inches high.  The small hole at top is approx. 9/16" diameter.  There is no writing on the drill bit.  Shows some small amount of surface rust from being stored in the garage for several generations.
    I can not document the existence of the bit as everyone that has heard the story of the bit has passed away from 15 years to over a 100 years ago.
